Travel Info

Part of Feynan's charm is that it is an idyllic and isolated location, but don't worry, getting there is easy. Jordan is a relatively small country and Feynan can be reached in 3 hours from Amman and 2 hours from Aqaba or Petra by car. Whether you are arriving at Feynan by car, public transport or on foot, we have added directions, maps and answered common questions below.

If you have any other questions or any problems on your way, please contact us: +962 6 464 5580 or reservations.feynan@ecohotels.me.

Where is Feynan Ecolodge?

Feynan Ecolodge is located at the south western edge of Dana Biosphere Reserve - near the villages of Qurayqura (pronounced Greigra) and Feynan - approximately 215 km south of Amman off the Dead Sea-Aqaba Highway (route 65). If you are coming from the North, DO NOT take the Desert Highway (route 15) or Kings Highway (route 35).

PLEASE NOTE: Although Feynan is only 14km from Dana Guesthouse/Dana Village as the crow flies, please do not follow signs to Dana Biosphere Reserve, or head to Dana Guesthouse or the village of Dana (off the Kings Highway) unless you plan on hiking to the lodge (6-8 hours). As there are no roads inside the Reserve, it takes over 2 ½ hours to drive from Dana Guesthouse (in the Eastern section of the reserve) to Feynan (in the southwest).

Feynan reception centre location is now available on google maps under https://goo.gl/maps/4y3wWfd7jGB2. Directions are mostly accurate, unless you are coming from Amman, Queen Alia Airport or the North, where google maps suggests a route via Madaba, which, although closer in distance, it would take much longer time. We recommend you take Na'our road (Route 40) towards the Dead Sea hotels area and navigate to Feynan from there.

If you have your own high-suspension/4x4 vehicle, you can drive directly to the lodge. This dirt road between the reception centre and the lodge can also be found on Google maps under https://goo.gl/maps/ZMv5uBB8j8x

How do I get there?

There are several ways to get to Feynan including by car, by foot and on public transport. We have covered information on all these options below, starting with comprehensive driving instructions.

Please note that the last 8km (half hour drive) to the lodge is off road. If you are not arriving in a high clearance/4x4 vehicle or on foot, transportation must be booked for the last 8 km of off-road track from our Reception Centre to the lodge. Transportation is provided by local Bedouin in their own pickups. The price per trip will be added to your bill at checkout. The full amount of your transportation fee goes directly to your driver to help support the local community. As such, there is no need to tip the driver. The pickups the drivers use are old, and the drive can be uncomfortable for some as the road is rough in parts. We apologise for this, but we are confident that you will soon find that the experience is worth it.

What are the GPS coordinates of Feynan Ecolodge?

The coordinates for the Feynan Reception Centre, outside the village of Qurayqura/Greigra, where you can park your car are:

36R 734038.07E, 3389500.37N (30°36'54.65"N, 35°26'29.10"E)

The coordinates for Feynan Ecolodge (off-road, not recognised by most navigation systems) are:

36R 740482.6E, 33932322.84N (30°38'22.4"N, 35°30'33.24"E)

Please note that not all navigation systems give the best route to get to Feynan, often adding hours to your journey, as some of the less travelled roads are not programmed into their maps. We strongly suggest you use the instructions below, and use the coordinates as a reference.

Driving from Amman: (We recommend resetting your odometer when you reach the 7th circle in Amman to easily follow the directions)

There are three main roads connecting the North of Jordan to the South: The Desert Highway (route 15), the King’s Highway (route 35), and the Dead Sea Highway, also known as the Dead Sea-Aqaba Highway (route 65).

  • Leaving Amman from the 7th Circle, head south on route 15 towards the airport. 5 km after the 7th Circle, exit route 15 (right) signposted towards the Dead Sea via route 40 (also known as Na’our road).

Make sure you do not stay on the Desert Highway (route 15) out of Amman, and do not head to the Kings Highway. The Desert and Kings Highways will add hours to your drive.

  • Route 40 ends at the Dead Sea Highway (route 65), 41 km from the 7th circle.  Turn left onto the Dead Sea Highway at a sharp bend in the road.
  • Once on the Dead Sea Highway (route 65), head south towards Aqaba. The table below lists some landmarks along the route with their distances from Amman’s 7th Circle and from the Feynan Reception Centre
  • At 187km from 7th circle, take the left turn at the Feynan and Qurayqura junction. There is a sign for Feynan Ecolodge on the highway at this point. Turn left towards the village of Qurayqura (pronounced Greigra) and Feynan Ecolodge.
  • From this point, there are signs on roadside electricity poles directing you to the Feynan Reception Centre, as follows:

o   Follow the road and turn right after 15 km.

o   Drive straight for 1.3 km.

o   At the next junction bear left

o   1 km later turn left again.

o   3.7 km later you will see Feynan Reception Centre on your left. If you are driving a high clearance/4x4 vehicle, the staff at the Reception Centre will direct you to the off-road track that takes you to the lodge.

I’m driving from Petra (Wadi Mousa)

Said by some to be the most scenic route in all of Jordan, Wadi Namla, is a little known, but spectacular drive from Petra to Feynan. We recommend resetting your trip calculator at the beginning of your trip to easily follow the directions.

  • Starting at the entrance of Petra, drive 8.4 km north towards Little Petra.
  • As the road ends, turn right for 150m and immediately left towards Wadi Araba (the route is called Wadi Namla).
  • Continue through the canyon, across the farmland and down through the breath-taking switchbacks overlooking   Wadi Araba.
  • Drive through the desert until the road comes to a “T” (44.3 km from the entrance to Petra). Turn right towards   the village of Qurayqura (pronounced Greigra) following the signs to Feynan Ecolodge.
  • Follow the road for 5.9 km. Turn right and drive straight for 1.3 km.
  • At the next junction bear left, and 1 km later turn left again.

I am arriving in a regular car (not a high clearance/4x4). Where can I leave my vehicle?

You can leave your car at our Reception Centre outside the village of Qurayqura (pronounced Greigra). We have covered parking manned 24 hours a day by one of our staff members. This is where you will meet your Bedouin driver who will take you on the last 1/2 hour off road track to the lodge.

How do I get from the reception centre to Feynan Ecolodge?

Feynan Ecolodge is 8km from the nearest paved road and we recommend that guests only use 4x4 or high clearance vehicles to access the lodge along this off road track. If you are not driving in a high clearance/4x4 vehicle, we can arrange transportation between the reception centre and Feynan Ecolodge. Please let us know at the time of your booking.

A local community transfer scheme is available to transport you the last 8km to the lodge. Local Bedouin drivers will take you in their own 4x4 from the reception centre to the lodge. They provide this service in their spare time to earn a supplementary income and 100% of the money paid for this transfer goes to the drivers. Please note that some of the vehicles are old and are well worn from travelling over the rugged landscape. The drive can be uncomfortable as the road is rough in parts, and we apologise for that. But the ride comes with a warm welcome and we are confident you will find the experience is worth it. This project supports 45 local families.

The transfer costs 14.00 JD per car of up to four people. The price per trip will be added to your bill at checkout. The full amount of your transportation fee goes directly to your driver to help support the local community. As such, there is no need to tip the driver.

How do I arrange a transfer between the reception centre and Feynan Ecolodge?

Please advise us when you make your booking, or any time leading to your arrival day. If it’s on the day of your arrival, we suggest you call the Reception Centre at +962 78 77 77 260 to advise them of your requirements. If you are not able to book ahead of time, you can just arrive at the reception centre and order your vehicle then. In this case, you may have to wait for 30-45 minutes for your pickup to arrive.

On your arrival date, we suggest you contact our Reception Centre of +962 7877 77260 when reaching the turn-off from the Dead Sea Highway in order for us to have the pick-up ready for you. If you are coming from Petra, please contact the above number when you reach the end of Wadi Namla road. If you are not able to call with your arrival time, you may have to wait 15-30 minutes for your pickup to arrive.

The transfer costs 14.00 JD per car of up to four people. The price per trip will be added to your bill at checkout. The full amount of your transportation fee goes directly to your driver to help support the local community. As such, there is no need to tip the driver.

Can I hike to Feynan?

Guests can hike to Feynan from either the Village of Dana (guided or unguided), or through the scenic Wadi Ghwayr (guided) starting near the village of Mansoura. Return transportation can be arranged to the starting point with local Bedouin pickups. Also luggage transfers can be arranged from Dana to Feynan for guests choosing to hike. All proceeds from the transfer fee go to the driver to help support the local community.

How long does it take to walk from...?

Mansoura (near Showbak) via Wadi Ghwayr: 7-8 hours

Contact us if you need help arranging your hike or would like a guide.

I am hiking from Dana/Wadi Ghwayr, how can I get back?

Transportation back to Dana or the head of Wadi Ghwayr is provided by local Bedouin in their own pickups. Each vehicle holds up to four passengers. The proceeds from the transfer fee go to the driver to help support the local community.

I am hiking from Dana/Wadi Ghwayr, can I get my luggage transported to the lodge?

Can the Feynan team help me arrange transportation to Petra/Dana Village?

Yes, we can arrange for a local Bedouin pickup to take you to Petra or Dana Village through one of the most scenic routes in all of Jordan: Wadi Namla. The vehicles are a little old and worn, but the drivers are courteous and the views spectacular. The route to Petra offers an opportunity to see the majestic dunes of Wadi Araba as well as the multi-coloured Sharah Mountains up close. The route passes through the less crowded area of Little Petra where stops can be arranged (for an extra fee). The proceeds from the transfer fee go to the driver to help support the local community.

Can the Feynan team arrange transfers to/from elsewhere in Jordan?

Yes, please contact us and we can make arrangements for a taxi/local community pick-up for you to/from all parts of Jordan.

We normally arrange transfers with a local Bedouin driver. The vehicles are a little old and worn, but the drivers are courteous and your money goes directly to the driver thus supporting the local community.
