Salem Jum’a,
Operations

Mohammad Odat

I was born here and lived here my whole life. My home is in Wadi Dana. I love living in nature and smelling fresh air, it is the best thing in this life to have clean air.

Operations

When I was a kid I used to herd the goats near the copper mines, and when it rained I would use it for shelter. I remember sitting in there, waiting for the rain to stop and would imagine what lay at the end of the mine shafts. I used to think that at the other side of it was a whole new world, beautiful and green.

Feynan Guide

Gasem Gawasmeh

I am the poet of the lodge, since I was a child I have been involved and interested in poetry, I learned it from my father. Bedouin poetry is different because it is extracted from everyday life; it is very emotional and is written in the softer colloquial Arabic rather than the classical Arabic, so it rolls of your tongue.

You know we don’t really get to travel around the world, so it is great that we get to see the world and learn about it through our guests. I feel so proud when I know they flew for hours to come meet us and learn about our way of life.

Duty Manager

I grew up in Greigra village and went to school there. I was one of the first four students to attend Tawjihi (high school graduation)! I got a job in 1994 to establish the electricity generators in Greigra, before then we didn’t have electricity. I also installed a system to monitor our use of electricity at the lodge.

Maintenance

Ali Al-Hasaseen

Our guests are always surprised with how pretty the area is, especially in the hidden places. Also the history of the area, when people see the Neolithic villages they are blown away. I now think very differently about the site, we would have ruined the site when we were kids playing with the goats and making cars out of rocks. Now I feel it is part of my heritage, part of our history, and it is important for me to protect it.

Feynan Guide

Nimer Qtieshat

Nimer wanted you to know that he loves Ma’looba (upside down rice dish) and is a big fan of fried food. If you find Ma’louba on the menu during your stay, he may have had something to do with that.

Assistant Chef

Ameen Saraheen

I worked on building Feynan when I was about 12 years old. I used to help with the tiles and I would load the cars from Greigra village. I have lived here since it was a camp site. It ended up being of global importance and I am proud to be a part of it.

Reception Centre

Mohammad Ali Saedeen

I was the fourth person to be employed at the lodge when it first opened in 2005. I still remember my first day here when we had our first guest. He was American, in his early thirties, and I figured I would have no trouble communicating since I studied English at school and university. Then I discovered how an accent changes everything! I’m attached to Feynan, I’ve been here since the beginning and don’t think I can ever leave.

Duty Manager

Salem Jum’a

I was born and raised in Feynan way back when no outsiders would come to the area, long before the lodge and the reserve. It is very impressive to see how many people care about the area now and come to visit from all around the world.

Operations

Ibrahim Zanoon

I came to Feynan when I was in first grade and graduated from here. I didn’t want to work at the lodge but then when I saw my colleagues around me developing themselves, learning a new language and having a steady job, and so I became interested in working here. I applied and now have been working in the shop for 3 years. I really enjoy meeting people and talking to people.
